Order Received for Construction of the Terminal 4 Building at Changi Airport in Singapore

—Second Order for Construction of a New Terminal Building at Changi Airport following Terminal 1 Completed in 1981—

Takenaka Corporation (President: Masahiro Miyashita) submitted a successful bid to construct Terminal 4 at Changi Airport to the Changi Airport Group, and received the order for construction of this terminal. The order of the new terminal is worth approximately 80 billion yen.

Changi Airport is a South-east Asian hub airport that has received many prizes from the airport industry in recognition of its services and facilities, which are considered to be the world’s finest. Takenaka Corporation has carried out many projects at Changi Airport. It received this order for the construction of Terminal 4 in recognition of its many past accomplishments in the field of airport construction work at Changi Airport and other overseas locations.

■Outline of the ordered work

The following are the major works to be executed under this contract.

Passenger terminal building
Two story passenger terminal, 25m high, total floor space of approximately 195,000m2, and planned passenger handling capacity of about 16 million passengers/year
Car parks
Multi-story car park and open-air car park facing the terminal building, capable of accommodating up to 1,500 cars
Taxi holding area
A two-story taxi holding area for taxis used by arriving passengers
Road improvements
Road improvements including a new road providing a direct connection between Terminal 4 and the East Coast Highway
Connecting bridge
A connecting bridge permitting airport busses and other vehicles access to Terminal 3 from Terminal 4
Ramp control tower
A 68m tall tower to control and manage the movements of aircraft on the apron and taxiways around Terminal 4 as part of aircraft control operations.

Terminal 4 at Changi Airport is being designed by Takenaka Corporation through consultation with the Changi Airport Group and a design consortium appointed by the Changi Airport Group.

■ Outline of the Airport Terminal 4 Project

Terminal 4 will have 17 contact stands for narrow-body aircraft and 4 contact stands for wide-body aircraft. The stands will be connected with aerobridges, improving convenience and accessibility for passengers. Designed to simplify air-craft turn-around, the terminal will be able to flexibly meet the needs of airlines. Its airport design and process innovations will provide travelers with an experience unlike those they have had at any other airport, and at the same time, contribute to increased productivity and operational efficiency of airlines and airport agencies.
