In order to construct cities with architecture that harmonizes with the environment, the effective use of resources, the reduction of waste materials, and the recycling of resources must be addressed. Over many years, Takenaka has been developing technology aiming for the “3Rs(1),” namely reduce, reuse and recycle, and has been using this technology in design and construction. Here we will introduce 3R technology using “sustainable works”(2) time-lines, consisting of the reuse, the design, and the construction stages.

(1) The “3Rs” refer to reduce, reuse and recycle.

  • Reduce: the reduction of resources, long-term use, and the reduction of waste materials
  • Reuse: easy demolishment and life expectancy analysis
  • Recycle: crushing, separation, and recovery

(2) “Sustainable works” advocated by Takenaka means “working with the customer aiming for the creation of architectural space which is in harmony with the environment.” As a partner with the customer, with the keywords of “friendly use,” friendly design,” and “friendly construction,” with regard to the global environment, Takenaka is advocating “sustainable architecture.”
