The storehouse and garden of an old mansion with 120 years of business history were restored so that its history and greenery could be inherited by this urban area. The building adopts technology for the utilization of natural energy, taking advantage of seasonal weather and climate, including natural ventilation, night purging (cooling the building at night), heating and cooling tubes (using the Earth’s thermal energy), and natural lighting. The building is effective in using natural energy to the maximum extent.

This is one of the world’s largest wooden domes built using laminated lumber from local Akita-sugi (Japanese cedar). It includes a pond to prevent flooding, and the effective use of natural water, including effluent groundwater and rain water collected from the dome.

The building effectively uses untapped river water for heating and cooling. By using water from the river, the building has a minimum influence on the air in the urban area to prevent the heat island phenomenon.
