Sannomiya Building South Tower

The "Sannomiya Building South Tower," which was part of the reconstruction plan after the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995, has been completed in the southern district of Kobe's Sannomiya Station. While aiming to construct an office environment where people could safely work, orderly town planning was also one of the aims. Based on a three-dimensional network design of pedestrian space, the southern side of the site was opened up as a public square, and a pedestrian deck was made above the Sun Kun Garden which connects to the subway concourse, linking the area to the adjacent areas and making it a linking point for people in the city to go back and forth.

The "Meiji-Seimei Aoyama Palacio," a compound building consisting of offices, residences, reception hall and shops, has been completed in Omotesando, in Aoyama, Tokyo. By dividing the office and residence wings, the volume of the building was set to blend in well with the surrounding environment. The front faces of the high and low towers on the Omotesando side were designed to meet the faces of the adjacent buildings, thereby creating a perspective scene in the direction of Harajuku. The conceptual design for the building exterior was done by a Spanish architect, Ricard Bofill, and was based on the theme of a big compound building, with granite cornice pediments on top of the a glass curtain wall with both a classic and modern image.

Seishin South Hills

The "Seishin South Hills," an own-your-own multiple-residence housing complex, was completed in a new town area in the west of Kobe City, with a gently-sloping hill background. The design was selected in a competition held by a large housing builder looking for supplying good quality and cheap housing after the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995. The complex is divided into low-level towers holding 50-60 units, and seven high-rise towers. With the commitment of "anyone being able to live safely in the city," a community is created with alley-way style roads, public squares on street corners, and community halls. Also earthquake-resistant construction of the high-rise towers, emergency facilities, easy access for the physically-impaired, and separate footpaths make it a safe and friendly living environment. By planting trees above the underground parking area, reusing rainwater and using wind power to generate electricity for the street lighting, consideration was also given to environmental symbiosis.

Also, by using a structural cool thermal storage system to store the cold of night air and cool tubes to use subterranean heat, minimum energy consumption has been accomplished. The exterior of the building, with metal panels on the exterior walls, simple horizontal multiple windows and light eaves, strengthen the building's sharp image. Hikaru Memorial Museum

The "Hikaru Memorial Museum," a compound-type museum consisting of an art gallery and museum, has been completed in the rich hills of Hida-Takayama, in remembrance of the founder of the Mahikari Organization, Kotama Okada. A park and green belts have been built on the site to act as a buffer with the nearby residential area, and most of the building was built underground to prevent it being oppressive. All technologies were put together with the architecture, construction and facilities design, giving it a highlevel of durability, so the building will be able to continue wearing on with grandeur even in 200 years time. Also, the use of natural energy such as solar power and subterranean heat was positively introduced. The materials for the building were also natural, such as stone, wood and mud, hoping that the qualities of these materials will add to the long and beautiful life of the building.

Hagiwara Central Hospital Annex

This building was built as an annex to the existing hospital in the hills of Yahata in Kita-Kyushu City and is connected to the main building by a corridor over the public road. The building has substantial functions, not only hospital and rehabilitation rooms, but also restaurants, bathrooms and a hairdresser. In order to improve medical treatment amenities, especially on the hospital room floors, many private rooms, instead of large rooms, were built going by a plan to allow each room its own window.
