"Habirisu-Hitotsuki" was built
under the auspices of TOYOTA Medical Corporation established by seven main
companies of the Toyota Group and Kariya City, and is the city's first
elderly welfare facilities. The site is located in the social welfare
zone of the Hitotsuki district of Kariya City. With functional cooperation
of the city's Welfare Center, consideration of the local people, and
the creation of a space for healing the elderly being called for in
the design, an important theme became "the links with public spaces"
for this suburban-type elderly welfare facility.

The pendant lighting gives a
warm atmosphere to the first floor cafeteria.

The building is a side corridor design with the medical
facilities located in the northern and southern wings, connected in
the center on the first floor with a cafeteria and public lobby. The
glass screen of the lobby facing the outside approach draws in an
abundance of outside light, and at the same time interweaves the people
using the facilities and the people of the area. The pendant lighting
suspended from the high atrium ceiling of the cafeteria connected
to the lobby gives the feeling of a well-spaced residence. The tallness
of the windows gives a feeling of a change in time, and the changing
of the four seasons can be intimately felt, enabling the elderly to connect
their eyesight indoors and out.
Some artwork has been placed in the front gardens, not only for visual
enjoyment, but it also has an important role of unifying the public
and private domains. A plaster-style finishing material has been used
in part of the outer wall to contrast with the tiled areas, leaving
a handmade feeling with an expression of warmth.
