ST LCD Head Office Plant

Construction of Japan's greatest liquid crystal panel plant, "the ST LCD Head Office Plant" has been completed, located about 25 kilometers south of Nagoya City in the hills of the northern region of Chita Peninsula. In consideration of the influence on the surrounding environment, a green belt was secured around the site, by keeping the plant and facilities in the central area of the site. The outer appearance was designed with a central curtain wall and gate type white cement paneling, giving a clean appearance with the contrast of two colors and a simple building form. The inside has six floors of office space and two floors of clean rooms, and in order to meet the vibration-resistance requirements called for in the design, the structure uses steel-welded, steel-framed beams and CFT pillars. The construction was carried out using the composite construction method by mechanization construction within the shortest time frame as possible.

Tokyo Metropolitan Harbor Waste Disposal Plant

The "Tokyo Metropolitan Harbor Waste Disposal Plant" has been completed at the Shinagawa Docks, with the Rainbow Bridge in the north, the Rinkai Subcenter in the east, and Tennos Isle in the south. In order to emphasize the form of the surrounding environment rather than the functions, it resembles a "lotus flower." In designing the facility, the demand for this complicated shape was respected as well as being able to fulfill the functions. Koa Fire & Marine Insurance Kobe Center

The "Koa Fire & Marine Insurance Kobe center" has been completed in an environment with a lot of automobile traffic and blessed with nature, with the Chugoku Expressway in the west, and some mountain ranges in the distance. The building has been constructed as a base-isolated construction equipped with a backup system, observing the electronic calculation safety measure standards, thereby fulfilling the functions of a safe, electronic calculating center. In order to reduce construction by-products, the building was constructed using many industrialization methods of construction, and the inside was constructed to make the application of LC easier. With the outside appearance, the lower part is dark gray granite combining 3 different types of texture and patterns, and accented by 4 small windows. To give the construction some change, the upper part is made of glass, lined pillars, serpentine, and white granite. A new scenery was created around the outside by planting moss pink, Himalayan cedar and mountain cherry trees.

Showa Hall

The "Showa Hall" is an institution which mainly collects, saves and displays historical data about the life experienced during and after the war, of people who lost some family member during the war. The site of the building adjoins the Outer Gardens of the Imperial Palace, and an area well known for cherry blossoms. In order to preserve precious data and information, a panel curtain wall made of durable titanium material is used for the exterior. The shape of the panels was made into the shape of folded panels, and while reducing the glare of the metallic materials, its exterior also gives a reassuring feeling like oxidized silver. In addition, in consideration of any influence from the outside, openings such as windows were kept to a minimum.

The Akakura Dormitory of Shoin Joshigakuin

It was over 60 years ago that Shoin Joshigakuin built a ski dormitory in Akakura, Niigata, for the purpose of training the mind and the body of its students. Because of its deteriorated state, it had to be rebuilt. The new building is in a bungalow style, so as to peacefully exist with the magnificent Mt. Myoko in the background. The building has snow colored concrete walls and sloping roofs on top to protect against the severe natural environment in winter, appealing to the ridge line of the fierce volcano. Even though the building has been rebuilt, it is hoped the efforts of the forerunners will be carried on in the bright memories of the people who visit here, by rekindling memories of the old building's architecture, with the wooden cabins and thick wooden pillars being used inside.
