Laxa Osaka

Urban Multifunction Facility Comprising Hotel/Office/Retail Store Building and Housing Building

The site of the former Fukushima Station of Hanshin Electric Railway was integrated with surrounding sites to create the urban multifunction facility Laxa Osaka, comprising a jointly developed building housing Hotel Hanshin as well as offices and retail stores, and a condominium building with a fixed period land lease.

Main Lobby
In striving to achieve the development concept of a community with a soothing streetscape, the plan adopted aims to achieve a feeling of affluence with the keywords "human scale" and "day-to-dayness," and "relaxation" for the community and visitors respectively. In the main entrance to the building, the walk-through from the piazza with the sculpture Twister to the newly-established nature trail is a space that fuses the applications of work, living and play, and forms the spiritual core of the plan. The sense of nostalgia and familiarity generated by the brick tile walls, the watercourses in which hot spring water flows, and sculptures, relax visitors to the building, and create an impressive scene.
The external appearance provides further light and shade to the swan-shape caused by the features of the site, and a grid-shaped design was adopted to achieve energy savings and to make the building less intimidating. In addition, to provide a sense of integration with the image of freshness while maintaining harmony with the streetscape, the two buildings were given slightly different earth colors. Inside the hotel, visitors are struck by the sophisticated interior featuring artworks and based on the concept of "relaxing in New York," which has succeeded in regenerating the image of Hotel Hanshin.
