Ariake Park Building |
As a facility supporting the Tokyo International Exhibition Center (Big Site) in the Tokyo Waterfront Subcenter/Ariake-Minami area, the multifunctional facility Ariake Park Building was completed based around a hotel with 830 rooms, and also features offices and stores. The high-rise tower of the hotel, which boasts gradually curving external walls of white tiles, looks out over the city center and Rainbow Bridge, while the lower levels feature a highly-transparent atrium space which attempts to attract people coming and going on the promenade. Safety in the hotel building is improved by utilizing extra-mild steel structural control walls. Client: Tokyo International Trade Center Corporation |

Tateyama Brewery - Rice Milling and Brewing Building/Mixing Building |
In Toyama/Tonami Plain famous for Sankyo-mura (a villege which consists of scattered farmhouses), we completed a new plant for Tateyama Brewery, which makes the famous Japanese sake "Tateyama." We have created a clustered streetscape in harmony with sparsely populated villages in which the paddy fields are dotted with residences and surrounding groves, and in which tiled external walls with a soft, handmade atmosphere are linked lightly above to a modern curved roof covered with metal sheet. The interior of the building has a facility structure which features high-rise and high-density in an effort to promote increased production. In addition, by utilizing plant facilities which make full use of the sensitivity of master brewers who have succeeded down through the generations, it is possible to achieve highly efficient facilities administration and high-quality sake brewing with small numbers of people. Shiga Girls' High School Gymnasium |
Immediately beneath Otsu Interchange of Meishin Expressway, we reconstructed the old gymnasium of the school, which stands on a north-facing steeply sloping site, surrounded by residential areas. The interior of the gymnasium has a width and height to enable it to accommodate regular matches in various sports, while it can also be used as an arena space in which due consideration has been given to reverberation to enable it to also be used as an auditorium. Staff rooms and conference rooms also adjoin the gymnasium. Due consideration has been given to the views and sunlight conditions of surrounding residences, and by separating the arena from the entrance and the adjoining rooms, and by striking off the gable side of the arena's large roof at an angle, the sense of pressure is softened. The vertical-style gallery at the gable side that shows a beautiful crescent-shaped silhouette functions as natural ventilation. Client: Sumire Gakuen |

Furukawa Agricultural Experimental Station Administration Building |

As a technical training facility that leads Japan's rice paddy agriculture, the old facility moved and expanded to a site surrounded by abundant rice paddies in the Higashi-Osaki area of Furukawa City, a famous rice-growing area. The building features a Management and Training Building and a Research and Experiment Building located functionally, and in addition to carrying out research and development of production technology, it supports technical improvements through open laboratories, as an open facility that is in harmony with the surrounding environment and the symbolic nature of the area. The complex is also home to an exhibition facility and park as a venue for learning and a venue for relaxation by the prefectural residents. The external walls are covered with porcelain tiles to match the features of the site. Client: Miyagi Prefecture |

Asahi Nagoya Printech |
In the pastoral suburbs of Nagoya, the new building of Asahi Nagoya Printech Co., Ltd. was recently completed as the publishing base for Asahi Shimbun in the Chubu District. The plant, equipped with four state-of-the-art offset rotary presses, has a maximum capacity of 600,000 copies. The line of sight from motor vehicles was considered in designing the building's appearance, and an objet image with a motif of straight lines and flat surfaces was combined with planting arranged in American-style tree-lined avenues to create new scenery in concord with the building. The interior of the building is comprised of a functional workplace, a cafeteria with an at-home atmosphere, an open refreshment room, and private rooms for naps, being part of the building's consideration for comfort.
