New Tatsuuma-Honke Brewery Building

Exterior of the building showing the sloping tile roof and the earthen color wall tiles
The old head office building that was built in 1917 is remembered as the symbol of the history and tradition of the brewery's flagship Japanese wine, "Hakushika" or "White Deer" for 82 years. The new head office building has been built within the confines of the Shinden Brewery plant. In designing the new office building, the functions and efficiency of having the head office organization in the same location as the production department were retained, while placing importance of continuing the image of the traditions and dignity of the original building.
The main approach leading through the front courtyard

The spatial structure of the old building was copied, using a main approach from the gate through the front courtyard. Whereas there was a long winding path through the central courtyard before, an unwavering path has now been realized through the porch, central courtyard, lobby and passageways connected in the space in the layered pattern. By doing so, this restoration has managed to maintain the importance and richness of this original building space. With the shape and materials, a sloping tile roof and wall structure were used to place an importance on the open expression of the building and the exterior was finished with earthen color tiles, thereby enabling the new building to retain the dignity of the old building. The business zone uses a highly effective core layout, with a system ceiling and free-access floor in the style of a large room, having the functions and flexibility of a modern office building. It is hoped that the new head office building, holding the traditions of the old head office building and the new design with high efficiency and flexibility, will capture the affection of generations to come as well as the old building.
