WASEDA University Building 40
WASEDA University Building 40 This building houses various research and testing facilities centered on the development of extremely low power consumption IT technology, towards the realization of a low-carbon society. The objective was the fusion of a clear architectural structure and environmental technology using unit laboratories fitted out with the required infrastructure in each span. The 360 vertical axis rotating louvers covering the exterior walls are used to control the “external environment,” such as for privacy, natural lighting, and warmth, and are also used for the “interior space,” such as a projector or display screen. Changing the angle of the louvers, which can be freely turned, changes the iconic image of the complete façade. With the aim of reducing LCC, by designing a logical structure using modules and a dry system, the functionality and flexibility of the building is high, realizing long-life, cutting-edge laboratories.
