Yokohama Bay Quarter

KANAGAWA 2006

This project entailed the construction of an open-air mall commercial facility at Yokohama Portside. Making the most of the site, along a canal, the aim was to create a commercial facility with the concept of a "cruise." The seaside open area, using lots of curves, and the alley-like walkways that connect to it create a comfortable space, and visitors are able to enjoy shopping or meals on the decks or in the atrium while feeling nature. With the assumption of water, brine, wind and rain damage, innovations were made to the design of the floors, walls, and ceilings, and careful consideration was given to the selection of the materials and how it all came together. With works of art from foreign artists in the public areas, this is an appealing and innovative commercial facility.
