Panasonic Stadium Suita

OSAKA 2015

Home to the J-League club team Gamba Osaka, this new football stadium is the first in Japan to be funded by donations. Built to international standards, it offers theater-style seating for 40,000, with a minimum distance of seven meters from the field to the nearest stands. Roof construction is based on combined seismic isolation and 3D truss structures, realizing a reduction of about 40% of total roof weight. The south side features a low glass roof to allow natural light for grass growth; air vents are situated beneath the stands. The stadium design was made simple and features maintenance-free materials; environmental technologies such as LED lighting and 0.5 megawatt-solar power generation make the building sustainable.
