Super High-Rise Tower in Redeveloped Cityscape
−City Towers Toyosu The Symbol

This 44-story super high-rise residential tower is in rapidly redeveloping Toyosu. Takenaka's Super Flex Tube frame allowed for reduction of interior beams, permitting flexible design of residential space and installation of panoramic windows. The tower incorporates a seismic structure with a damping device that partially absorbs seismic energy. The residential area is at the periphery of the square-shaped building; the building core incorporates services including elevator shafts and multi-story garage, all unseen from the exterior. Landscape was designed following the city's redevelopment guidelines.

Shinto Building Features Composite Construction
−Atsuta Jingu Kagura-den

This kagura-den, or sacred dance hall, was built at Atsuta Jingu in Nagoya in preparation for the celebration of its 1,900th year of enshrinement in 2013. The building looks as if made entirely of wood but the main structural members are steel beams for earthquake-resistance. The traditional wooden roof structure is covered with lightweight copper-plating and has wooden eaves that extend about six meters. The eaves and beams made from yellow cypress enhance the beauty of the architecture. For fire prevention purposes, fire-resistant glass is used in some areas.
