The construction project involved the relocation of the existing senior nursing and healthcare facility, group home and rehabilitation day-care center located in a suburban area and the addition of a new clinic. The intent of the design was to create a “home” rather than a “facility,” and so the multiple facilities were covered by a single large roof. A simple design characterized by a gently stretching roof and large eaves was used so as to simultaneously make the building stand out from the rich natural environment and integrate it with that environment. High sidelights were placed along the entire length of the building to depict the cross-sectional configuration in the gable side facade and enhance the “homey” appearance.
