Works18PLAN　S=1:4500The commercial building consists of two malls connected by a “pavilion of light.” The East Mall, with its dynamic series of atrium spaces, has a ceiling that is composed of a vertical series of folded metal plates that is designed to depict a “retro future” excitement that evokes the future-oriented perspective at the time of Expo’70. The West Mall, with its cascading series of atriums and light courts, is a very open commercial environment in which people can sense the presence of natural light and greenery. The “pavilion of light” uses red and white, the same colors that were used in the Tower of the Sun, to create a symbolic festive space. Outside, a circular pavilion with a stage and fountain facility has been provided, one that is integrated with the trees and benches that are placed in a rhythmical fashion, creating an open space that is both vibrant and cozy.
