For the interior, an impressive design in which tension is produced by the contrast between new and old technologies (Taisho period masonry construction and modern beam-less thin flat slab construction that contrasts with the atriums in between) was used. The entire structure is enclosed by light vaulted ceilings, creating a single building that houses the Kitakaro restaurant, one of the most prominent venues for the culinary culture of Hokkaido and one that has an open feel, as well as a serene coffee shop that seems to float in midair. Bookshelves have been placed on the wall as a “memory device” reminder that the building was once a library. Rather than static preservation of a historic building, the result is a rebirth of the building as one that will continue to be used in the contemporary age.(Junichi Yokoo)2F PLAN S=1:6001.カフェテリア Cafeteria2.吹抜 Open ceiling space3.バックスペース Backspace昭和初期の既存建物(旧北海道庁立図書館)札幌市古文書館より提供解体終了時、鉄筋挿入とRC壁により補強を実施N212332
