It is a commercial establishment that proposes a book-centered lifestyle, in which the people who live in the city play a leading role by forming a community. The creation of new value through the establishment of a “community living room” stimulates the station-front area, in which the “street culture” (the generation of local culture and information that are specific to that street) is gradually being hollowed out. This “re-redevelopment” project, involving the reconstruction of the station-front redevelopment building that was constructed some 40 years ago during Japan’s period of high-level economic growth, illustrates the potential of station-front renewal in an age of population decline.
