A condition of the project was that the school playground with which the local community had become familiar should be developed as an open space. It was decided to provide this as a public space connected to the nearby urban spaces and roads as a contribution for coexistence with and vitalization of the local community, to put visitors to the hospital at their ease, and to promote public-spirit and closeness with the community. The aim was an urban redevelopment that embraced the “hospital” as the core function for utilization of the site of the school, the “park” as a healing and recreation space for coexistence and interaction with the community, and “avenue” as internal and external routes in the urban space in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
