The traditional elements include porches as seen in traditional housing to protect the entrances from the winter seasonal winds that occur in the Nagaoka and Chuetsu regions, verandas that can be changed in accordance with the hot summer and cold winter climatic conditions, pedestrian paths that can be used even during the snow, etc. The modern elements include the layout scheme of the new hospital, a semi-external inner mall, canopies, and overhangs.
