223142N地域に開かれた交流の館A Building for Interchange, Open to the Localityおおらかな屋根をかけた交流の館31This is a training facility for a social education group that has bases active throughout Japan. For the facility based in the Kyushu region, the design took as its motif “Hakata-ori” (silk textiles from Hakata) expressing “weaving” and “knitting”, which is familiar in the locality.The façade is formed from twisted aluminum louvers taking into consideration the line of sight to the nearby buildings while also allowing flickering light and glimpses of the interior to be seen from the outside. The fourth floor is provided with training rooms, as well as various conversation places such as a lobby facing a terrace, a lounge, a kitchen studio, etc. The aim was to produce “city living” encouraging new interchange by gently linking these with Japanese cypress louvers suspended below the large roof.
