On the north side of the site are stream-fed marshland rice paddies known as YATSUDA. As these have water year-round, they are a gathering place for wild creatures, and therefore they constitute a place of coexistence between human beings and nature. A staggered layout was employed to incorporate the wind blowing through the valley into the building, achieving a balance between comfort and the view of the YATSUDA.Rice cultivation and other experience-based learning activities that are co-sponsored by the Toyota Motor Corporation and the local community foster a community that includes both urban and local residents. The facility serves as a venue for learning about the workings of the satoyama that are disappearing from modern life and coexisting with wildlife, and it offers the opportunity to become closer to the forest environment.
