Demolition of the Old Hotel Plaza (Oyodo-Minami, Kita-ku, Osaka City) Begins Using the Environmentally-Friendly Superhigh-Rise Building Demolition Technology, the Takenaka Hat Down Method

Takenaka Corporation (President: Toichi Takenaka) placed a successful bid to construct the Market Street Tower (tentative name), a superhigh rise office building with 40 stories and height of 245 meters in Raffles Place in the central business district of Singapore. The owner is SPC (Market Street Office Trustee Pte Ltd.), established jointly by Singapore’s largest developer, Capital Land, and Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. Its design was supervised by Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects and by RSP Architects. The price of the order received by Takenaka Corporation is approximately 25 billion yen and the contracted work period is about 32 months from January 1, 2012 to August 23, 2014.

Outline of the Project

The Market Street Tower (tentative name), a superhigh rise office building with 40 stories and height of 245m, will be newly constructed amidst rows of existing superhigh-rise buildings in the business district, Raffles Place, in Singapore. Takenaka is executing the work paying close attention to the subways which run in every direction under the planned construction site, while applying advanced technologies to deal with Singapore’s unique geological layer formed by marine clay. The building aims to earn Singapore’s top energy conservation index, Green Mark Platinum, by achieving superior environmental performance using many environmentally friendly technologies such as exterior greenery, natural ventilation by the cool void (atrium) method, and improved thermal efficiency by the double skin method. This project will be constructed using three-dimensional design drawings BIM in order to realize superb design qualities and peak environmental performance.
